For a quadratic equation ax² + bx + c = 0 (a ≠ 0), the discriminant is D = b² − 4ac.
Worked example: For 2x² − 4x + 2 = 0, D = 16 − 16 = 0, so the roots are equal: x = 1.
The rate of change of momentum of a body is directly proportional to the applied force and takes place in the direction of the force.
Worked example: A 5 kg trolley accelerates at 2 m/s². Force = 5 × 2 = 10 N.
A reflex action is a rapid, automatic response to a stimulus that does not involve conscious thought.
Remember: Reflex actions are mainly controlled by the spinal cord, not the brain.
Bundle sample: each chapter follows this same concise, example-led format.
Hint for Q1: Use aₙ = a + (n − 1)d.
Answer to Q1: (b) 12, because 23 − 11 = 12.
Tip: Two negatives multiplied give a positive.
